Awards
- Wings up 100 Research Achievement Award, TTU, 2024. This award is given to TTU faculty members who activated at least $100K of external research grants in last academic year.
- Caplenor Faculty Research Award, TTU, 2023. Awarded annually to one member of the faculty of Tennessee Tech University for outstanding research accomplished while employed at the University. This award is Tennessee Tech University's highest honor for faculty
- Wings up 100 Research Achievement Award, TTU, 2022. This award is given to TTU faculty members who activated at least $100K of external research grants in last academic year.
- Fulbright US Scholar Award, 2022 to 2023, US national/federal award, offered for excellence in research, teaching, leadership, and outreach. Worked for University of Qatar
- T.S. McCord Engineering Faculty Award, College of Engineering, TTU, 2022. The award is primarily to recognize an outstanding faculty member who has demonstrated a deep compassion for the students. Examples of such activities could include outstanding advising to students, outstanding teaching, engaging/impacting students in meaningful research activity, etc.
- Wings up 100 Research Achievement Award, TTU, 2020. This award is given to TTU faculty members who activated at least $100K of external research grants in last academic year.
- Teaching recognition by the Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence in the Office of the Provost and the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning for excelling in the classroom regardless of delivery mode and for going the extra mile for students based on campus pulse student survey completed by over 2800 students, 2020.
- IEEE Senior member. As a recognition to Dr Mahmoud’s contribution to the research community, he has been elevated to senior member by IEEE in 2020.
- Kinslow Engineering Research Award, TTU, 2020. This award is given annually for the best paper written by a TTU engineering faculty member and published in a peer-reviewed professional journal. The selection criteria include both research innovation and research applicability.
- The Best Paper Award, IEEE International Conference on Smart Applications, Communications and Networking (IEEE SmartNets’19), Egypt, December 2019.
- Wings up 100 Research Achievement Award, TTU, 2019. This award is given to TTU faculty members who activated at least $100K of external research grants in last academic year.
- Early Promotion. Dr Mahmoud have been promoted to Associate professors in 2018.
- Scholastic Research Award, TTU, 2017-2018. The award recognizes a tenure-track faculty member at TTU with outstanding accomplishments in sponsored research and scholarly activities.
- Brown-Henderson Outstanding Engineering Faculty Award, TTU, 2018. The award recognizes an outstanding faculty member in the College of Engineering. This award focuses primarily on accomplishments which most closely reflect the mission of the College of Engineering, to prepare our graduates through a blend of education, research and service. This award is TTU's College of Engineering's highest honor for faculty
- Kinslow Engineering Research Award, TTU, 2018. This award is given annually for the best paper written by a TTU engineering faculty member and published in a peer-reviewed professional journal. The selection criteria include both research innovation and research applicability.
- Featured Faculty Recognition/Award, 2017, College of Engineering, TTU, awarded due to exemplary in teaching, outstanding in research, and very active in service, based on the recommendation from the Department Chair.
- The TTU recipient of the 2017 Rising Renaissance Engineer Faculty Scholar award for the College of Engineering. The award recognizes tenure-track faculty who are making outstanding accomplishments as documented in their scholarship activities. The total amount of the award is $11K, including $3000/year for three years used for career development and one-time $2000 given to the faculty member.
- The Best Paper Award, IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC16), Doha, Qatar, 3-6 April 2016. This award was one of only four given, among more than 1000 papers submitted, and was the sole award for the Network Track.
- NSERC-PDF award , $80K for two years, Canadian national award, The research proposal title: "Efficient security protocols for delay-tolerant wireless networks (DTNs)", Granted based on research accomplishments and communication and leadership skills, 2013.
- Mitacs Elevate Fellowship (MITACS-PDF) award , $110K for two years, Canadian national award, The research proposal title: "Security protocols for smart grid", Granted based on research accomplishments, 2012.
- Doctoral Thesis Completion Award , $5000, this award is granted to faculty of engineering (University of Waterloo) students about to complete Ph.D. program with significant research accomplishments, 2011.
- Doctoral Thesis Completion Award , $5000, I declined this award to pursue a teaching position in the ECE department, 2010.
- Ontario Research & Development Challenge Fund Bell Scholarship , $18,999 per year, awarded for outstanding students showing academic excellence based on recommendations from their supervisors, Ontario provincial award, University of Waterloo, 2010-2011.
- The Best Paper Award, IEEE International Conference on Communications (IEEE ICC), Dresden, Germany, this award was one of only fourteen given among 1046 papers presented and more than 3000 submitted, and was the sole award for the Communication and Information Systems Security Symposium, International award, 2009.
- Distinguished Teaching Assistantship Award, ECE Department, University of Waterloo, this award is granted to the best teaching assistant based on evaluations by students, 2009.
- University of Waterloo Graduate Scholarship, earned four times (Spring 2007, Winter 2008, Spring 2009, and Winter 2009), $4000, awarded to graduate students for excellence in research and course work.
- Graduate Studies Research Travel Grant, from University of Waterloo to attend IEEE ICC conference in Germany, $3400, 2009.
- Textbook and Technology Grant (TTG) from Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP), Canada, 2008/2009.
